Tried & Tested: Vichy Skincare
All this week I have been having a whale of a time testing Vichy skincare products. I was particularly excited to use these products as I had heard great things.
I have got to be honest though, I was never overly kind to my skin in my younger years and never quite got why my Mam would be having kittens every time I went near her skincare products. Now I get it, they are precious.
Along with drinking plenty of water and taking makeup off properly before bed, (this is also a good gauge of how drunk I was the night before), you have got to use good products.
The first product I tested this week was Pureté Thermale 3 in 1. I am always wary of anything that is a 2-in-1/3-in-1 product, as I think it can’t do them ALL well surely. But this one manages to cleanse, tone and act as an eye makeup remover.
This is a great product for the girl on the go and it’s a great travel item. Sometimes we just do not have the time to do the whole regime, but this makes up for that. It’s a lightweight fluid, which means it won’t clog your pores but still packs a punch when removing the days makeup and dirt – it leaves your skin feeling velvety soft.
It’s formulated for sensitive skin too, and it’s non-greasy. It contains Vichy Thermal Water and Captelae, a shea extract, which works to grasp impurities on the skin and banish them to your cotton pad. I have been using this for a week and I can see a difference in my tired air-conned skin already. It’s revitalised!
This product is €14.99 – which is really good considering it saves you buying a toner and eye makeup remover too and it’s a large tube.
Next up in by bag of goodies was the Eau Thermale spray. I didn’t think I would be overly gone on this product, but when I realised how flexible it is I soon changed my mind. I used this after my 3-in-1 cleanser to soothe my skin.
It left my skin feeling fresh, hydrated and velvety. I kept touching it, which is perhaps counter-productive! This is a power product; it can be used during flights, during hot summers to rehydrate, to tone the skin and it can be used as a fixing agent when your makeup is done (although hold it a little further back, or you’ll just look sweaty!)
This spray is packed with 15 rich minerals and 13 trace elements which have come down through volcanic rock. Fancy, eh? It works really well on a baby’s nappy rash and even on those red blotches you get from shaving at high speed when you realise your missed a patch of fluff on your leg! Please say it’s not just me?
At €10.99, this multi-tasking product needs to become a fixture in your life! Get on it.
My final product was the Aqualia Thermal Serum. This is like water for your skin, it’s packed with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid to intensely hydrate your skin and keep it moisturised for hours.
You can use this serum alone or under your moisturiser, I preferred it alone, and more so at night time after a long day. It feels good on the skin, and keeps it from tightening. You will have replenished velvet skin after the use of this. Due to the velvet effect, you could also get away with this product as a primer if you are running low! Just pack on a little more powder.
This is suitable for sensitive skin, but it’s perfumed, so it may cause irritation to some. The Aqualia Thermal serum would be perfect for anyone who has just decided to take up a good skincare regime recently too, young guns and old alike – it is €24.00 and the benefits far outweigh the cost. You are probably paying more for the actual water from your tap to hydrate you anyways!
This Vichy range is available in Hickey’s Pharmacy on Henry Street.
