Tried & Tested: Massage & Facial at The Tethra Spa at The Merrion Hotel
Last weekend, I was surprised by my beautiful best friend who had flown over from England for my birthday, and amongst all the celebrations, we decided to go all out and treat ourselves to some pampering at The Tethra Spa in the stunning Merrion Hotel. They were running a great offer for August that included any two half hour treatments for €90, so I opted for the Re-Balancing Facial and Back Reviver Massage.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by our therapist who led us to the changing room to change into a big fluffy white robe and slippers. There were showers, toilets, spare towels and beauty amenities that you could help yourself to also.
We then met the therapists back at the seating area and filled out a consultation form where we could note any problem areas before the treatments started. The treatment rooms were dimly lip, very cosy and the air was filled with aromatherapy scents. The bed also had a hot blanket on to keep you nice and snug.
My therapist did the back massage first, which started with skin brushing, exfoliation and then treated with hot towels and mitts (this was a nice touch as often it just goes straight in to the massage). She worked out the tension areas with warm oils at the pressure I had requested (nice and firm!), and then finished with a moisturising body balm.
Once done, she moved onto the facial which used specific massage techniques and aromatherapy products by Darphin, combined with a warm marine mud mask to cleanse and decongest the skin. She also massages your head and neck whilst the product is working away on your face – this is always a nice touch when getting a facial. My skin felt so clean and hydrated afterwards and as it’s sensitive, I was pleasantly surprised at how glowing it was!
As I got back into my robe in my trance like and relaxed manner, the therapist met me with water and homemade pear sorbet to enjoy in the relaxation area.
Once finished, we made use of their steam room and pool area which was equally as relaxing in all it’s grandeur. It’s always nice to be able to use the facilities before or after your treatments to really extend the experience. All in all, it was quite simply heavenly!
