These freezing cold days are really having an effect on our skin. It’s important to protect your face from the harsh weather so as well moisturising, you should be wearing a high factor during the day – Cliniques Super City Block SPF 40 is perfect for every day as it’s light weight and non oily.

We went on the hunt for a nourishing and moisturising cream for some extra protection from the cold and came across this homemade lavender mask from Clones N Clowns. Give it a go and let us know if it works for you!

‘In this recipe, you can either use dried lavender (pick it and leave it to dry a couple of days in the sun) or lavender essential oil. Either way, you want to make sure you only put a few drops / flowers in the mask. This quantity is perfect for an appeasing, regenerating face mask. I love it ! The yoghurt is not only a base in this recipe, it also works as a hydrating agent too. The honey, as you may know, soothes the skin in depth and kills any yucky bacteria. Try to use organic if you can!

To make this homemade lavender mask :

Mix 2 tbs plain yoghurt (use greek style for the ideal consistency), 1 tsp of honey and a few drops of lavender oil OR 1/3 tsp dried lavender flowers. Smooth it over your face, neck and bust and leave it on for approx. 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and apply moisturiser as usual.

Making your own face mask at home allows you to know what really goes in the mixture you’re applying to your face. By using all natural foods you’re escaping the chemicals which lie in a lot of beauty products – plus, it makes for a fun thing to do with your girlfriends!

Ingredients:

Lemon
Plain yoghurt
Honey
Mixed berries

Method:

1. In a blender, combine 2 tablespoons plain yoghurt and 2 tablespoons honey, and pulse until fully combined.

2. Add 1/4 cup mixed berries, pureeing until smooth, then add 1 tablespoon lemon juice.

3. Using your hands, apply mixture to a clean, dry face. Let mask sit 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse face thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.

Benefits:

1. Blackberries deliver even more antioxidants than blueberries do.

2. The vitamin C and natural enzymes in fresh citrus help brighten the skin.

3. A mild antiseptic, honey gently exfoliates, promotes tissue growth, and seals in moisture.

Autumn and Winter are a time to give your skin extra care as the cold and wind can cause it a lot of damage. Try making up your own face scrub from ingredients you would find at home. Here’s one for brightening up your skin when it’s feeling a little dull:

Ingredients:

Cane sugar
Sunflower oil
1 kiwi
Muddler
Air-tight container

Method

1. Choose your container, and measure your exfoliant so that the container is 3/4 full.

2. Measure out your oil. You’ll want a 2-to-1 ratio. So, twice as much salt or sugar as oil.

3. Combine oil and salt or sugar in a bowl, and stir until just combined.

4. Add in the fruit or vegetable chopped as finely as you can get it, and muddle the mixture together until just combined. You don’t want to mix it too much or the granules will start to dissolve.

5. Decant into your storage container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
