We all know that coconut oil is amazing for our skin, hence why we flock to it in the Summer to hydrate our sun-soaked skin after a day at the beach. But do you know what else it can do for you beauty regime? Listen up ladies.

1. Highlight

We kid you not, you can use coconut oil as a natural highlighter on your face, just above your cheekbones. All you need is a smidgen and it’ll give you a lovely natural glow. It’s the base ingredient in a lot of natural highlighter on the market so why not just take it straight from the jar.

2. Shave your legs

Shaving foams and cheap soaps are filled with chemicals, so try shaving with coconut oil. It won’t leave your legs greasy but it will leave them hydrated and glossy, and smell delicious!

3. Condition

If you hair is looking rather dry, put a dollop of oil into your hair and sleep on it over night. The oil will penetrate the hair easily and prevent protein loss.

4. Remove makeup

Coconut oil is a dab hand at removing waterproof mascara and other waxy products. Just use with a cotton pad and wash your face as normal after!

5. Tame hair

Much the same as you would use any serum in your hair to tame your fly-aways, put a pea sized drop in your hands and smooth over your locks for a glossy finish.

6. Exfoliate

Mix coconut oil with a little brown sugar and you’ll create a natural body scrub that’s super sensitive on your skin. It will also hydrate your skin at the same time!

By pop, we mean either get rid of last nights 3 bottles of wine that’s showing on your face this morning, or make your beautiful blue, green, brown, hazel (etc, etc) eyes shine a little brighter. So get out your makeup bag, go stand by the freezer and start taking notes.

1. Ice ‘em

If your eyes are suffering from a case of the puffy’s, then put some ice cubes into a face cloth and hold it to your eye – it will bring the inflammation down so you can see again.

2. Go white

Wearing white eye liner in your waterline will boost the white in your eye. It’s great for getting rid of that reddish/blood shot look.

3. Know your colour

What ever eye colour you are, there’s an eye shadow out there to make the pigment that bit more vibrant. For the best pop, go for: Blue = Copper/Light Brown, Green = Pink/Burgandy, Brown = Khaki/Grey.

Image // Linda Sminkblogg

4. Two-tone

Time to change up your mascara habits! Apply black to your top lashes and brown to the bottom, it’s an instant tip to opening up those peepers.

5. Highlighter is your friend

Applying a highlighter to the centre of your eye lids, by your tear ducts and under your brows for an instant i’ve-had-my-beauty-sleep eye lift.

If you have naturally big eyes then luck you, we’re very jealous, because the rest of us spend our time forging our way to big peepers. There are a few tricks in the beauty book that help you extend the eye out so here’s a few tips for you to play with.

1. Cover up

Dark circles can make the eyes seem smaller so make sure to cover the area well with concealer. If they’re quite dark then use a green (yes green) coloured concealer and it will counter act the darkness really well. Check out the review we did on Amazing Cosmetics concealer here.

2. Curl those lashes

If you have straight eyelashes then they’re more likely to cast a shadow on the eye, so curling them up will make them appear bigger.

3. The right mascara

Lashings of mascara will always help with that doe eyed look so a few layers is essential. Put a bit more on the middle and outer edge if you want to draw the eye out.

4. Winged eyeliner

Using a liquid eyeliner, draw a fine line on the top lash line and flick it out and up on the outer corner to extend out the eye. Check out our tutorial here or else try the cat eye for a more dramatic look.

5. Brighten the waterline

Applying a white or light pink eye pencil to the waterline of your eye will make the white of your eye appear bigger, thus making the eye seem lighter and brighter.

6. Arch your brows

When plucking, if you have a slight arch in the brow it will heighten the eyelid and accentuate the eye. Make sure to pluck in a way that suits your face shape.

Home hair dying can be a little risky, so if you’re not confident doing it at home then get down the salon. If you are going to do it then here’s a few tips.

1. Try before you dye

If you’re a little nervous about whether a colour with suit you or not, try on a wig. It’s drastic to go from your natural blonde to a brunette for example so trying on a wig in the colour you want could could be an easy way to decide.

2. Buy more than you need

It’s better to have too much dye than run out half way through so buy more than you think you need.

3. Use the right one for you

If you have sensitive skin, use a mouse, if you have thick or curly hair then use a gel or liquid.

4. Avoid the pool

Chlorine strips away the hair cuticles allowing minerals to get into the hair shaft and change the colour of your hair – so sit pretty pool side.

5. Buy a shade lighter

Hair dye always comes out darker than on the bottle so buy a shade lighter.

6. Dirty hair is good

The natural oils in the scalp help to prevent a buffer from irritation to the dye so skip the shower.

7. Prepare for the damage

Dyes contain hyrdrogen peroxide so use a mask once a week to deeply hydrate the hair to avoid breakage.
