Summer is drawing to a close and we’re dreaming of long coats and plum nail varnish. Here’s some beauty trends you can start to wear now, ready for Autumn/Winter 2015.

1. Metallic eye shadows

Vamp up your eye shadow collection with bronze, coppers, golds and silvers. They don’t just have to be neutral tones either, be bold with a metallic blue.

Image via

2. Lived-in makeup

Pass up the perfect eye liner for a little smudging. Make the cheeks naturally blush with a cream based blusher and a touch of nude on the lips.

Image via

3. Low ponytail

Stay sleek and sophisticated this Autumn with a low ponytail. Put a little product in to tame fly-aways and get a nice hairband to dress it up.

Image via

4. Dark lips

Swap the corals and pinks of Summer for something more dramatic. Go a little more gothic with a plum-based lip or sexy with a deep dark red.

The season of coat and jacket shopping is back (well if you live in Ireland did it ever really leave?). We have however been quite fortunate with the lack of cold days but it’s starting to take a turn and we need to get down the shops asap. Here’s some very necessary coats to bring you into Autumn.

1. Trench coat

A great light jacket that’s good in the rain too. We love the classic camel look to pair with, well everything!

Image // whowhatwear

2. Leather jacket

For when you want to add a little edginess to your outfit.

3. Draped coat

We adore draped coats all year round, they’re !

4. Waxed jacket

Khaki waxed jackets with a little tartan lining is country chic (and waterproof!) If you want the real deal, check out Barbour’s collection.

5. Faux-fur collar blazer

Update your blazer with a faux fur collar for a little extra warmth, or just buy one attached like this beauty from River Island.

6. Suede jacket

Keep in with this years 70s trend with a suede jacket. It’s got Autumn written all over it!

Sadly it’s starting to feel more and more like Autumn as the days pass – is it too early to buy a chunky knit cardi? We think not. However just because festival days and Summer vibes are ending, doesn’t mean we have to leave this years boho 70’s trend behind. Here’s 5 items that will work in your Autumn/Winter wardrobe.

1. Denim skirt

Swap the sandals for knee high boots, tights and a cosy coat with your denim skirt to Autumn-update this 70’s staple.

Image // feedly

2. Bell bottoms

Take your jean leg out at the ends with this classic 70’s look and pair with a slouchy blouse. Stay safe with denim bottoms or go all out with corduroy.

Image // oliviapalermo

3. Suede jacket

Suede just screams 70s chic and a jacket in this luxe material is a must.

Image // lolobu

4. Knee high brown boots

Get yourself a pair of knee high brown boots (go all out 70s with a suede pair) and team with tan leather or denim skirts, floaty dresses or your favourite jeans.

Image // lacool&chic

5. Fringed bags

In fact, fringe anything. Get those tassels going on your bags, heels and jackets. Just not at the same time!

AW15 came alive in a whimsical whirl of nostalgia, with references to the 50s, 60s and 70s continuing through to the 80s. A futuristic overtone was present blurring the lines from decade to decade.

Nostalgic and feminine overtones with dark, Victorian influences have emerged this season. New, clever and precise constructions with bespoke appeal pushed boundaries. Punk and grunge were dominant trends flawlessly executed by Givenchy, Saint Laurent and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Embellishment makes for an important message with crystals, hardware and ornate embroidery added to almost every design. Lace was ever-present in all its forms from 3D to guipure but featured in a much more casual, contemporary way.

The wealth of rich, jewel-inspired hues kept catwalks alight ensuring AW15 veers away from darker tones. Traditional autumnal colours take a glimmering restyling with golds, emerald greens and sapphire blues shining bright into the exciting season ahead.

Retro Futuristic

A new wave of retro, with strong futuristic nuances swept the runways with designers taking inspiration from the 60s, 70s and 80s and giving shapes a modern edge. Metallic and bonded fabrics made a galactic statement. The catwalks of Saint Laurent, Prada, Peter Pilotto and David Koma all referenced this trend.

Couture Construction

The AW15 runways saw exquisite feminine shapes emerging accomplished by impeccable craftsmanship. Designers drew on original classic patterning, elaborating details and a refining attention to detail. Fabrics are luxurious, almost bespoke. Designs are infused with dynamic cuts, material folds and hand-stitching creating a one-of-a-kind sensibility. Silhouettes sat close to the body and long midi-lengths dominated, in a colour palette of black, grey and white.

At Stella McCartney, the collections bordered on couture. Victoria Beckham combined ribbed knits with elegant wrapped skirts, while turtleneck dresses were strikingly created with swatches of chenille and silk. Balenciaga featured ovoid coats and jackets as well as waist-focused tulip skirts with a street edge – seams were held together with metal staples whilst black leather belts took the form of collars on jackets.

Gothic Girl

The runways were awash with a gothic theme for AW15, evident through an abundance of leather, Victorian frills, lace detailing, fringing and patches of embellishment all adding to this darkly decadent trend. This look was hard-edge yet fun making for a strong fashion look. Under the veil of Victorian silhouettes, glorious materials and ornate patterns created a dramatic and nostalgic effect. Sheer fabrics, lavish embellishments, floor-skimming skirts and frilled details were key. Many designers were inspired by this dark romantic aesthetic infused with a bohemian feel including Alexander Wang, Givenchy and Victoria Beckham. The beauty and decay of a rose was explored at Alexander McQueen.

Op Art

Op Art influenced designs brought a new intensity to the continuing graphic monochrome trend. Chequerboard, swirls and chevrons were the focus, mixed with pretty prints making for an unexpected update to winter florals, repeated on head-to-toe looks for high impact. Longer monochrome lengths were seen at Valentino whilst Céline made an exciting step into print.

Grandma’s Dressing Up Box

Many runways emanated an old world vintage style including Prada, Miu Miu and Dolce & Gabbana. Designs were beautifully bejewelled and featured heavy embellishment whilst colours and prints clashed in magnificent forms. Erdem’s silhouettes fell away from the body with a trapeze style silhouette. Oversized knitwear, high necks and turtle necks were also favoured in this vintage inspired trend.
