5 Things To Do Before Applying Fake Tan
We all want a Summer glow right, but sadly with the fair skin that our Irish ancestors gave most of us, we’re not going to achieve this naturally. So we reach for the bottle, and yes we mean in the tanning sense. Before you apply however, there are cardinal rules to take note of before you endeavour on your trip down bronzed lane.
1. Wax/shave first
If you have any unwanted hair you want to get rid of then do this first. Waxing or shaving your tanned areas after you’ve applied will only strip the product back and leave you patchy.
If you have any dry areas on your skin then the fake tan will sink into that spot the most and leave dark patches. So make sure to exfoliate with a mitt or a scrub before applying – concentrate on the elbows, knees and ankles.
3. Moisturise a little
You want your skin to be completely dry once you’re applying the tan, so after you’ve exfoliated, add a lightweight moisturiser and allow it to soak in for 15 minutes before you start.
4. Know your product
It’s important to know details of the product you’ve chosen, ie. does it darken gradually, is it quick drying etc. So whether it’s a mousse, spray or cream you’re going for, make sure to do a little research on it first.
5. Start at the bottom
Using approximately one teaspoon at a time, apply in circular motions at your ankles and work your way up to your face. This will avoid any creases or smudges. Use latex gloves or a mitt to avoid those orange hands!
