5 Lighthouses To Stay In Around Ireland

As people often do, one tends to over look the majestic landscape that we’ve been graced with here in Ireland. Rugged coastlines and rolling hills are the back drop to many stay-cation properties around our little green island, and one of the most unique places to stay amongst this scenery is a lighthouse (it’s definitely on our places-to-stay-before-we-die list). Here’s a handful of the best lighthouses to sleep in around Ireland.

1. Clare Island Lighthouse

Where: Clare Island, Co Mayo

Set on the cliffs edge at the back of this island in Clew Bay, this newly renovated lighthouse is nothing but sea views and peace. Wood burning stoves, a library and even a sauna will make your stay nothing but cosy. PS. You can actually stay in the tower! Prices from €175pp which includes breakfast and a 6 course meal.


2. Gally Head Lightkeepers House

Where: Clonakilty, Co Cork

Over looking St. Georges Channel, this small but cosy lighthouse is a cliff edge escape. There’s a fully functioning kitchen and open fire to make yourself at home. Prices from €418 pw/e.


3. St Johns Point Lighthouse

Where: Killough, Co Down

Sleeps: 4

It’s bumblebee-exterior and quaint living quarters make this a unique place to stay in. Situated in an idyllic location for walking, fishing and other outdoor activities, it’s also just a short drive from Northern Irelands bustling capital. €550 p/w.


4. Crookhaven Lighthouse

Where: West Cork

Sleeps: 8

Modern design meets the 1800 with this stunning structure looking out over Ballydevlin Bay and Carberry Isles. Pull up an armchair and waste your days away relaxing with that view. Prices from €650pw.


5. Loop Head Lightkeeper’s House

Where: Kilbaha, Co Clare

Sleeps: 5

This very traditional lighthouse station is perched on the cliffs of Loop Head with views of the wild Atlantic ocean. With cast iron beds, wood burning stoves, and views out West, you’ll feel like real lighthouse keepers back in the day. Prices from €374 pw/e.
